Our local (the union shall be left nameless to protect the innocent) is to say the least less then thrilled with the local’s leadership. Is that something we’d have to look in the bylaws for? Is there any way to forcefully remove them IMMEDIATELY or do we have to sit and wait for their time to be up before we can do anything about it? I’m on vacation so I don’t have a copy of our bylaws on hand to check through on that and I’ve tried doing web searches but all that comes up in the hits are for Bush. Anybody able to point me in the right direction?

I understand you and many of the members of your local union are dissatisfied with your current, elected leadership. I believe you are on the right track regarding having to consult your union's bylaws which may state how to 'impeach' an elected officer of the union. I understand you may desire to have the person or persons removed immediately, however, this is something which will take time. I would also suggest that you continue up the chain of command within your union and contact the International office to convey your dissatisfaction. I recommend doing this in writing via delivery confirmation, regular postal mail and email. You may also choose to telephone the International but, just as with the written correspondence, remember you will have more credibility by maintaining a professional tone.

I figured we'd be stuck... We're ready to drop the whole thing actually... The terrible leadership on the local level carries all the way to the top of the national.

Hi Guest,

I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you and your fellow members are going through with your local union office. I would like to be of more assistance but I'm not certain what more I could add. If issues have been present for some time, you may choose to consult other labor organizations and ask for their input; they may be able to offer some assistance in working with your local office and/or explain how you may be able to try for an election of another union.

Fraternally,

Dustin

Recently, I received a greatly detailed explanation in regards to the procedures which may be considered in regards to this issue, removing Union Officers. I encourage anyone interested in this subject to consider the information in the response as it offers great insight and information in regards to the issue:
