| Our company just voted to ratify a new contract. The results were a tie. The rep told us that in the event of a tie, he can make the deciding vote. This seems like BS to me. Is this allowed? |

[color=blue:8f2823e4d8]Hi Partsrecycler,
This information may be located within your local's or international's Constitution and Bylaws (rules and guidlines). These may be different for each labor union as they are typically written by and voted on by the membership of the union as necessary. If this issue is not specifally addressed within your Constitution, it is my belief a contract must be ratified by the majority of eligible, union members voting for the contract to be accepted (an employee of the union office is typically not a voting party as he/she is not a member of the union.
Fraternally,
Dustin

[color=blue:70e1560fab]Hi Partsrecycler,
You're very welcome, unfortunately, I have an error to correct in regards to this issue. I recently became aware that it may not be that unusual for business agents of the union to be eligible to vote on such items as contracts. Apparently, in many instances, business representatives who are employed by the union may also be dues paying members of the same union. I emphasize consulting your specific local's Constitution and Bylaws and apologise for any confusion I may have created.
Fraternally,
Dustin
