| i am presently a member of a union in michigan our members are wanting to possibly seek leaving union and going to the afl-cio(either aft or afscme). i need someone to come talk to us but am having a problem because i presently belong to a union. does anyone know if there is a way to get more information about the afl-cio without crossing any lines. is there a time frame if we get out of our present union that we can then speak with someone else? i don't know where to begin. we are secretaries at a public school. any advice would be helpful. |

[color=blue:0ef08b8841]Hi CMT,
I believe it's always ok to ask questions (don't worry about any lines).
The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), http://www.aft.org, has contact information on their site as well as the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), http://www.afscme.org.
You may also wish to contact the Michigan Association of Governmental Employees (MAGE), http://mage.org, or the Office and Professional Employee's International Union (OPEIU), http://www.opeiu.org.
There are timelines in which members may select different representation and these organizations should all be well versed and able to walk you through it.
Thanks for the opportunity to address your question. If we may be of greater assistance in regards to this, or another issue, please contact us again.
Fraternally,
Dustin
