Hello,
I have been working in the industry making costumes at Sea World, Lego Land, The Old Globe Theatre and a couple of other companies here in San Diego. The highest amount of money I was able to get per hour is $12 and I was the Costume Lead at Legoland- which meant I ran the entire park as far as costumes go. Now I have a BA in Costume Design and called the Old Globe Theatre to get a job there again with my new degree and she offered me $10/hr. I know the union is in the scene shop at The Old Globe- my question is-
Why does the union not branch into the female realm of costumes and sewing in San Diego? I know there is a costume guild in LA.
I apoligize in advance if it is exhists- if it does me and my friends don't know about it.
thanks |

[color=blue:d4d9e22b4a]Hi Skypainter18,
Thanks for your question. UNITE (formerly the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees) and HERE (Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees International Union) merged on July 8, 2004 forming UNITE HERE. UNITEHERE is one of the more prominent labor unions representing workers within your field of work. Prior to replying to your question, I was not able to confirm which union may currently represent workers of The Old Globe, however, I encourage you to contact UNITEHERE, www.unitehere.org, in regards to this issue.
If we may be of further assistance in regards to this, or another issue, please contact us again.
Fraternally,
Dustin
