Was Giant bought by Food Lion?

I certainly hope this is just a rumor. I am union (CWA) and a co-worker told me she heard Giant Food was bought by Food Lion (which is non-union). I find it shocking and hard to believe, and have tried to look for info on this, so far nothing. So, as silly as it seems, we just want confirmation so we can decide if we are going to continue shopping there or not

In my research, it appears as though Giant Food is a subsidiary of Ahold, http://www.Ahold.com/ http://www.aholdusa.com, as of 1998. Food Lion is a subsidiary of the Delhaize Group, http://www.delhaizegroup.com. While Giant Food and Food Lion do not appear to be related, further confirmation may be received from your local CWA Union office.
