I recently signed up on twitter for Unions.org.

The domain is http://twitter.com/unionmembers.

I see unions becoming more and more fragmented and less in touch with its membership. Do Union leaders really know what is going on with its membership? I think not based on the hundreds of emails I get everyday from members asking for information about their pensions, benefits and healthcare plans. This should be information that they get from their union. What a failure on the part of the union.

Now I must say not all union locals are that bad. It is just like a business some are run better than others.

Don’t Union leaders stay in touch? Do members go to meetings? Who has time for that?

I think members have gone virtual and need more ability to access information at the click of a mouse. I am going to put up a poll and ask if members want a social connect site (like Twitter) to stay informed. It would be like a Virtual Local Union hall. Would you join it if you could stay in touch with your union better?
