‘Si, Se Pudo!’: New Yorkers Win Paid Sick Days

New Yorkers involved in the fight for paid sick days have been waiting to hear those words for three years. Friday morning, they finally heard them, as City Council Speaker Christine Quinn gave in to relentless pressure from unions, community groups, and the Working Families Party (as well as many colleagues and opponents in the New York mayor’s race) and agreed to pass a bill that will ensure almost no New Yorker can be fired for taking a day off due to illness.
