The Outreach, Marketing, Recruitment Specialist, under the direction of the Director and in collaboration with the faculty, is responsible for identifying opportunities and conducting outreach and marketing for the various types of department programs, including adult continuing education programs (residential and community sponsored programs), apprenticeship programs, union sponsored programs, labor management facilitations, and special regional conferences.

Duties include promoting the department and include outreach, planning, developing, implementing and evaluating marketing activities. These duties will continue to evolve as the transition of School for Workers back into the UW-Madison campus continues.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Engage in outreach activities to develop and strengthen partnerships with local unions, regional union bodies, labor councils and federations, and community groups to raise department visibility and promote educational programs on the state, local, national, and international levels.
  • Serve as first contact for potential clients and communicate with them in person and via phone, electronic media and letters
  • Develop, implement, and analyze comprehensive annual outreach & marketing plans and budget.
  • Conduct and document marketing activities, and develop reports analyzing trends and success of programs covering enrollments, hours, revenues and other program data sorted by subject matter, client groups, program types, etc.
  • Lead and manage department web presence, including website and social media sites.

Required Qualifications:

  • Self-starter, highly organized, and able to work independently and function well as a member of a team.
  • Solid track record demonstrating excellent interpersonal, written, presentation, and management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows-based computer applications, as well as database and web applications.
  • Knowledge about and experience working with labor unions, non-profits, or other advocacy organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in marketing or work with identified client groups.
  • Experience using traditional and online marketing channels including interactive marketing and social media.
  • Skills in identifying prospective audiences and assessing emerging needs for programming.
