Union Description

The International Association of Firefighters or IAFF is the represents the firefighters and paramedics who work full time to protect our nation.  There are approximately 274,000 members dispersed among the 2,900 affiliate locals.  The IAFF is an important group of dedicated men and women whose jobs protect most of our land and resources.  In addition, this national union is committed to fostering positive relationships within each community.

The IAFF is also interested in promoting programs that are aimed at safety and prevention.  The International Association of Firefighters Burn Foundation is devoted to burn prevention and education, burn research and improving the quality of life for those that have been stricken with burn injuries.  Due to the nature of their jobs, firefighters understand the seriousness of burns and come across burn victims frequently while in the regular course of their jobs.  This is why the IAFF has taken such an interest in burn research, safety and prevention.

They have also started the IAFF National Children's Burn Camp, which draws in young burn survivors from across the country and sends them on a tour of Washington D.C.  The tour takes them all over Washington D.C – memorials, monuments, and they even meet a few famous politicians.  The IAFF and its 263,000 members understand better than most that there is a tremendous need to provide funding and assistance to help the more than 2.5 million people, mostly children and the elderly, who are burned each year.

If you would like to find out how you can contribute to the IAFF and the Burn Foundation, please go to their website -  www.iaff.org .  Or search for an IAFF local near you on our union search – Union Search.
