saved lives with the help of our training and services.

Since the implementation of AED PAD (Public Access Defibrillation)
programs, these powerful stories have been coming in more and more.

Whether it be a family member, friend, client, congregation member, or
stranger, SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) can happen to anyone, anywhere,
anytime. With an AED program in place, you too can be prepared.

What is an AED?

Commonly known as AEDs or defibrillators, they are small, portable, electronic devices that can analyze the heart, detect a potentially fatal abnormal rhythm, then deliver a shock that can restore a normal rhythm.

When a patient suffers sudden cardiac death as a result of a heart attack, it’s not the heart attack itself that kills the person - it’s an abnormal rhythm (ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation) caused by damage to the heart muscle. A heart that is fibrillating beats ineffectively, like a bag of worms. Blood can no longer be effectively pumped to the vital organs and the patient dies. Once fibrillation has occurred, death will almost always follow unless a shock is delivered.

That’s where AEDs come in.

AEDs have been shown to save lives. In general, survival of out of hospital arrest is about 4 to 6 percent. Adding CPR can boost this to about 15 percent, but adding rapid defibrillation raises the save rate to 30 to 40 percent - or even higher.

Once cardiac arrest from an irregular heartbeat has occurred, the sooner an AED is used the better. For every minute of delay from collapse to defibrillation, mortality increases by 7 to 10 percent. Results are best when defibrillation is done within four minutes though CPR can buy some time.

What should I do if I see someone collapse and there is an AED nearby? Should I use it?

The answer is “YES.” I highly recommend that everybody take a course in CPR and AED use. But as Dr. Elizabeth Nabel, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, told me, even if you’ve had no training in using an AED, you should try to use it if you see somebody collapse.

AED’s have built-in instructions that audibly walk you through its use, step by step. All you have to do is turn one on and listen to the instructions. Some even give instructions on how to do CPR.

Nabel emphasized the importance of calling 9-1-1 first to get help. This is crucial because once you get busy doing CPR or using the AED, you may forget to call for help. Call 9-1-1 first, and help can be on its way as you are trying to revive the victim.

Good Samaritan laws protect users of AED’s in all 50 states. But if you buy an AED then you should check with the company selling it to find out if there are any regulations (such as certification) that you need to know about.

What is using an AED like?

It’s incredibly simple to use because the AED can talk to you. The main thing you have to remember is to hit the on-off button. After that, the machine walks you through exactly what to do, step by step. It will tell you to place the pads on the person's bare chest. It then automatically analyzes the person's heart rhythm. If a serious arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat) is present, the AED will tell you to push a flashing button (you can’t miss it!) to deliver a shock. It will then analyze the patient’s heart again and tell you whether you need to repeat the shock.

Couldn’t a shock hurt someone?

AEDs are designed to deliver shocks only to patients who have potentially lethal irregular heartbeats. For example, if a person has just fainted but is otherwise fine, it will tell you that no shock is advised.

Just think: You could save a life.

visit ABC Defibrillators

THE CALIFORNIA SUPREME COURT AND ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER SHOULD HEAR FROM THE CALIFORNIA VOTERS ON TRASHING OUR VOTES AND OVER TURNING THE VOTERS DECISION ON SAME SEX MARRIAGES.

MARRIAGE HAS BEEN HONORED IN CUSTOM AND LAW FOR MORE THAN 5000 YEARS.

Fellow Americans,

We can’t sit back and do nothing and allow the
minority’s voice rule the decision making in our country. We can’t
complain if we don’t make a stand to change the direction our nation is
going.

It is wrong that 4,618,673 of us voted on Proposition
22 in the state of California, which defined that marriage exclusively
as being between one man and one woman and victory was 61% affirming a
traditional family. The margin of victory for this affirmation of the
traditional family was 61 to 39 percent. Even though the people voted
and won the Supreme court judges and the Governor of the state of
California said, “not so fast common people, we hold the trump card
and you loose”. Proposition 22 was trashed in a single blow!

Did
you know that all legal documents in the State of California pertaining
to marriage are to be rewritten and printed and it will cost us the
taxpayers millions of dollars?

These tyrants that refuse to
uphold the vote of the people need to hear from the people. I propose
that we come together as PEOPLE OF INTEGRITY & PRIDE and fight back
to conserve the morals and values that this great nation. We need to
conserve the rights given to us and fight to secure them for our

Asbestos is the generic name for six naturally occurring minerals that have been used in commercial products for their strength, flexibility, low electrical conductivity, and resistance to heat and chemicals. Because of these properties, there are a wide variety of commercial asbestos applications:

electrical wiring and switching components

fire retardant insulation for buildings building materials like drywall, joint compound, roofing shingles

HVAC insulation

Automotive gaskets and friction materials (brake pads, clutch linings)

Boiler insulation, pump gaskets and packing materials.

The known risks posed by asbestos exposure to humans have been
documented since the early 1900s. The first documented case of
asbestosis was in 1924, spurring additional studies that linked
asbestos exposure to specific lung diseases.

    Asbestos
diseases follow a “dose–response” relationship curve. This means that
the more asbestos you inhale (dose), the greater your risk of
contracting an asbestos–related disease. For example, if a person
worked around asbestos for 5 years and someone else worked in the same
job for 15 years and had an equal concentration of exposure, the person
with 15 years of asbestos exposure would have a higher cumulative dose
and therefore a higher risk of developing an asbestos-related disease.

Due to the nature of asbestos use, occupational exposure to asbestos
occurs more frequently within the trades. Asbestos related diseases
have a high latency period; taking from 5-40 years to develop from the
initial asbestos exposure. Alerting your doctor to your potential
exposure to asbestos will help him or her be on the lookout for the
early signs of disease development - leaving you with more options for
treatment.

The Effects

Asbestos diseases are typically the result of the inhalation of
asbestos fibers; the effects of which might not be diagnosed until
years, or decades, after the exposure to asbestos occurs. The most
common diseases associated with asbestos exposure are:

Asbestosis and asbestos pleural disease - Both result in the
inflamation and scarring of the lungs. While not typically fatal,
reduced lung capacity will result due to internal scarring of the lungs
and the loss of elasticity from pleural thickening.

Asbestos
lung cancer - Develops in the lining of the bronchi, the trachea,
bronchiole, or alveoli. Although lung cancer usually develops slowly,
cancer cells can break away and spread to other parts of the body.
Smoking combined with asbestos exposure significantly increases the
chances for developing lung cancer.

Mesothelioma - A fast
acting and almost certainly fatal cancer linked directly to asbestos
exposure. The tumor encases the lung as it grows along the pleura, the
lining of the chest and abdominal cavity, causing difficulty with
breathing and compromising lung function.

Your Options

If you are diagnosed with an asbestos related disease, your options
will be dependent upon the severity of your disease. For further
information about medical treatment options, visit the following:
Asbestosis Treatment
Asbestos Lung Cancer Treatment
Mesothelioma Treatment

Independent of medical treatment, you may be entitled to financial
compensation for your injuries. The producers of asbestos products were
well aware of the diseases airborne asbestos could cause. The asbestos
lawyers at Brayton Purcell have been involved in protecting the legal
